The
Lanificio Fratelli Tallia di Delfino represents a hundred year history of enterprise, artistry and passion spanning four generations.
At the outset in
1903,
Delfino Tallia, together with a partner, founded the weaving and finishing firm
Tallia e Guardia.
The firm, at that time already a manufacturer of high-class clothing fabrics, took advantage of extensive local potential to establish itself on the Biella district industrial scene.
In
1921 Guardia left the firm and Delfino's three sons joined the business.
Pierino, Mario and Aldo Tallia founded Fratelli Tallia di Delfino which manufactured and sold woven and spun cloth.
From this point on, the company became an entirely family-run concern aiming at high professional standards and expertise in all areas of the business. Each member of the family gained first-hand experience working in the factory?s departments and dealing with customers and suppliers.
Business developed in the years to come until the various branches of the firm were integrated into a complete-cycle wool factory in the thirties.
When third generation family members
Paolo and Gastone joined the firm, it had already become a market leader as a direct result of the family's entrepreneurial capacity. The firm, which set out as a manufacturer of fine drapery, progressed in the
50's and
60's into the garment market and Tallia articles were exported throughout Europe and to Germany in particular.
Aldo's first son
Alberto travelled to Australia to study raw materials at the origin and gain expertise in wool purchasing.
In
1968 the company was severely damaged in floods which brought production to a standstill for 8 months. Assisted by its workforce, the family tenaciously re-launched business in a bid which, more successful than ever, led to initial trade on the US and Japanese markets and strengthened the firm's position Europe.
Testimony to Tallia entrepreneurial capacity in recent years is its collection of women?s haute couture fabrics. The
80's 90's represent an important period for the company, with sales expanding to more than 30 countries a figure that still represents 75% of sales volume. This strong international presence is the result of intense efforts and widespread travelling by company managers to penetrate new markets.
In the last few years the firm has further consolidated its success by creating extra-fine fabrics for high-end menswear with the refinement, variety of patterns and colour that typify all Tallia collections.
To the delight of its customers and in response to the demands of the market, each season sees the presentation of innovatory fabrics featuring cotton, silk
and linen which once again emphasise the creative capacity of the firm acquired in
100 years of experience.
Today
Tallia di Delfino continues to be a family-run business through third generation member
Stefano, and three young members of the fourth generation,
Mario, Pietro and Giovanni.
